Tenet Healthcare Foundation, a charitable foundation sponsored by Tenet Healthcare Corporation, has awarded a college scholarship to a local student, who is the daughter of a Park Plaza Hospital employee.
This year, Tenet Foundation awarded a total of $302,000 to 173 recipients through the Tenet Children of Employees Scholarship program.
Park Plaza's local winner is: Ashley Givhan, daughter of Darryl Givhan, Buyer, Materials Management.
For the first time, students pursuing healthcare careers received slightly increased scholarship amounts. “As a healthcare company, it is a way of recognizing our mission and investing in the work force of tomorrow,” said Barbara B. Luton, vice president, corporate citizenship, and executive director, Tenet Healthcare Foundation. “We are extremely pleased to congratulate all the winners and their parents for this outstanding scholastic achievement.”
In four years, the program has awarded 676 scholarships totaling more than $955,000 to deserving college-bound children of Tenet employees.
The Children of Tenet Employees Scholarship program is administered for Tenet Foundation by Scholarship America, a division of Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America Inc.
Endowed by Tenet, Tenet Foundation, along with Park Plaza Hospital directs most of its grants to help unmet healthcare needs in the community served by facilities (or regions) owned by Tenet subsidiaries. The Foundation also provides grants to various educational, social services, civic and humanities - supporting organizations nationwide.
Ashley will attend Lee College where she will study medical radiology. Her hobbies include tennis and swimming; she volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and Red Cross.
