The Wound Care Program at Park Plaza Hospital and Medical Center is dedicated to the treatment of healing and non-healing wounds (such as diabetic ulcers, pressure sores, venous stasis ulcers, ischemic ulcers, and trauma).  The Wound Care Program is a part of the Outpatient Rehabilitation Service at Park Plaza and is located in the Lower Level of the South Tower of the hospital.   It is staffed by Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, and Rehab Techs trained in Wound Care.

The Wound Care Program treats patients with non-healing or healing wounds resulting from diabetes, peripheral vascular insufficiency, venous stasis, incision breakdown, traumatic injuries, sores, and burns.

Patients are referred for wound care by their physician.  The referring physician will be updated with the patient’s progress on a weekly basis or more frequently as required by the physician.

Upon the initial visit, the therapist performs an initial evaluation to assess the wound.  Wounds are measured on the initial visit and every seven days thereafter.  Patients are seen for treatment based on the physician’s order.  This can include modalities such as whirlpool, pulse lavage, and dressing changes.  Sharp debridement techniques such as removing necrotic tissue from the wound bed, using scalpel and/or a sharp debridement kit may be performed as needed.
