HOUSTON - Park Plaza Hospital recently announced the addition of the Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera offering the diagnostic capability for Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI), effective, June 3, 2005. This technique can be an effective tool in the early detection of breast cancer and in the recognition of malignant tumors.
BSGI is a nuclear medicine procedure that uses a high-resolution camera procedure to take pictures of the metabolic activity of breast lesions. It relies on the advanced imaging of specific detectors and better positioning to optimize the results of functional breast imaging.
BSGI can prove to be a “next step” when post-mammogram evaluation is indicated. The Dilon 6800 Camera can detect small lesions and early stage cancers, see lesions independent of tissue density, and is capable of providing the same views obtained with mammography. The camera’s small size and portability allows for use in breast centers and typically produces same-day evaluation, earlier results, and more accurate detection of breast cancer.
BSGI may be the perfect complement to the current imaging diagnostic services offered at Park Plaza Hospital and Medical Center such as X-Ray, Mammography, CAD, Ultrasound, etc. Beginning in June 2005, BSGI will be available in the Park Plaza Outpatient Imaging Center at 1200 Binz in the Plaza Medical Center Professional Building.
